Kansas City Fashion Week Friday Show Fall 2017
Friday night was the last show for us at Kansas City Fashion Week. The great thing about going to the fashion shows on Friday and Saturday nights is that you can really dress up for these two big shows. We got to see so many more local bloggers and even other media like Mix 93.3. There were Kendra Scott swag bags lined up on every chair in the middle row of the European set up. As always, we had to get our picture taken on the Red Carpet and check out the Designer Presentation, which this night it was Judy Bales. I really like how Judy Bales brings her world of sculptural art and brings it into wearable art.

All the designers were amazing and really set the tone for Fall/ Winter 17'. Each designer really brought their own approach while still seamlessly flowing in from one collection to the next. There were pieces from each collection that I loved and even some I would wear.
The first collection was from Joshua Christensen, design based out of Los Angeles. He was also on Project Runway Season 9. I really liked that his showed both designs for men and woman. His Asian inspired collection had very bold rich colors, bright floral patterns, and intricate detailing. The pierced and painted faces added an edgier artful side to his showcase.
If I had kids I would totally dress them in Ethel and Dean! Meghann Wheellock is a Los Angeles Designer who has recently moved to Kansas City. Her children's collection Ethel and Dean was named after her grandparents. These beautifully put together upcycled clothing from age group 7- 16 uses denim, old military uniforms and graphic printed tees. Brings a little grown up fashion into the kids world and also more earth friendly. I just love it.
Julia Fischer is a woman's wear designer based right here in Kansas City but originally from St. Louis. This collection is very bold and fun with its bright blues, greens and pinks, some denim, feminine ruffle detailing, and holographic fabric. More of a statement piece to bring confidence to any woman who wears her designs.
Nasheli Juliana was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico but is based out of St Louis. Nasheli really took Nuns to a whole new level. This beautiful modern twist on Catholicism with different draping technique and bold cut outs and shapes. I really like that it a very new and risky approach to fashion. Taking these Monastery looks to the streets and runways!
Lauren Bander bring her whimsical designs back to the Kansas City Fashion Week runway again, this time with a feminine ready to wear dresses, hooded capes and longer gowns, with more winter like fabrics and a black, white and silver color palette. Laurens end light up dress was really a big statement piece the whole night.
Our very own born and raised Kansas City native Andrea Marie Long returning to Kansas City Fashion Week again killing it with the velvet silhouettes. Taking her love for costume design really plays in with her dark rich winter collection. With deeper forest greens, navy blues, with pops of gold detailing, plunging neck-lines with some leather, rich velvet's and ethereal like fabrics made for a gorgeous glamorous cohesive collection.
Bring me to the 70's with this Fall/ Winter collection from the wonderful self taught designer Tiffany Brown! Based out of Overland Park, Kansas she is now studying at JCCC. Tiffany brings us into the 1970's jet setting world of fashion, with big bell sleeves and bell-bottom pants, rich velvet's and thicker fabrics, leather pants and skirts, and fur coats. I really liked that she gave a story to her line by adding the suitcases and the cohesive shoes. This makes me feel inspired to wear more bold 70's clothes!
Jon Fulton Adams of Queens Rocket has been designing for over a decade. Most of his work has been seen in local productions and just also recently featured for his new approach to men's fashion in the local Kansas City "The Pitch". This collection was very bold and a border between masculine hunter and vintage floral silhouettes. I liked the mix of the two and that his men's line was stepping more out of gender norms; men can still be masculine while getting to free their fashion since in to items such as skirts. The mix of materials from heavy furs, leather jackets, silk like floral vest, and flowing long fabrics. I feel this gives more opportunity for men's fashion.
I cannot wait to see what Kansas City Fashion Week Spring/ Summer 18' has in store for us. Each year these designers really step up their game and really bring something new to the table. These collections from Fall/ Winter 17' gives me so much inspiration for outfits to put together this year.
Well that's a rap from us on Kansas City Fashion Week since it was our last show, but be sure to watch the actual fashion show on our YouTube channel and check out some of our local bloggers who went to Saturday's fashion show. I know we will be checking them out and, as always, feel free to leave a comment and be sure to subscribe and "like" to see more events like this one.
