Strawberry Swing Fair at Nelson Atkins Museum
Another season so another Strawberry Swing Indie Craft Fair! It's becoming the place to go for all things local and handmade in Kansas City. This time it was held behind The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, I believe to be the biggest museum in Kansas City as well as known by the shuttlecock sculptures displayed on the lawn. At the fair one could buy raffle tickets for prices and all proceeds went to the museum. Sadly, I lost the raffle but still contributed to the arts!
So I take you around the fair to explore quite a few booths and talk with Tara Tonsor, owner of Lost & Found Design. She collaborated with Red Hare Leather to create laser cut leather goods (bracelets and key chains). Awesome finds at both booths! I went back later on and bought a KC Missouri wood key chain and gold honeycomb earrings from Tara. Also, Faye Steiner-Woods from Red Hare Leather let me know that I could email her about customizing a purple leather bracelet I was eyeing in my size. Pretty neat! It's great to see small business owners exceed in quality customer service.
Bozz Prints was also there. I bought a Kansas City Royals shirt from them last Strawberry Swing in the Spring. Anita and I love their print creations.
I also have their Western Auto building inspired colorful print sitting in my living room.
Of course, I had to eat and there was plenty to choose from. Food trucks are largely popular and a wonderful addition to any fair. Trucks like Werner's Specialty Foods and KCPinoy were there. The latter sells Filipino cuisine. Try their Calamansi juice...delicious!
Another shop I bought from was Diderickson Designs. They make wonderfully crafted wood earrings and I added another pair to my collection!
I got up bright and early so I could be one of the first 100 people at the fair to receive a swag bag with at least a $10 donation (also going to The Nelson Atkins). Anita and I share what came in the bag. What Indie fairs do you attend? Let us know!
If you watch the video to the end, you'll see a bonus feature of Anita and I sharing what Lee Jeans sent us recently. We are not sponsored by them but continue to support their locally based business, and they were kind enough to send us a few pairs of jeans and pants. Their website is user friendly and they always have sales. Check them out!
Well, until the next fair... (yes, Anita and I love handmade items, crafts, antiques, and all things vintage!)
